Hot Air Balloon Marquee Styling for a Whimsical Celebration
Last summer I travelled to England as a Norfolk wedding photographer to capture Imogen and Alex’s incredible countryside celebration. Their day was full of personality, colour and laughter, starting from the family home in the morning right through to the last songs on the dance floor. From the moment I arrived, I knew this wedding was going to be something special.
The day began in the warmth of Imogen’s family home, where everyone gathered to get ready. There was such a buzz of excitement as colourful dresses were carefully steamed, morning suits buttoned up, and the last details fell into place. Photographing these relaxed, behind-the-scenes moments always feels so special because it sets the tone for everything that follows.
The ceremony took place in a beautiful Norfolk church filled with friends and family. There is something about a church wedding that feels timeless with the stone walls, the music, and the quiet anticipation before the couple walks back down the aisle together. Imogen and Alex’s smiles said it all, and the joy on their guests’ faces made this part of the day unforgettable.
After the ceremony, everyone made their way to the marquee in the Norfolk countryside. Imogen and Alex had created the most whimsical space with colourful hot air balloon decorations floating above the tables. Guests mingled over oysters and Guinness, an unexpected but much-loved pairing that felt so personal to them. Photographing these details on film gave everything a dreamy, nostalgic quality that I adore.
As speeches kicked off, the marquee was full of laughter and a few happy tears. The atmosphere was light-hearted and joyful, exactly as Imogen and Alex had planned. Later in the evening, a DJ took over and the dance floor came alive. Between the balloons overhead and the energy of everyone celebrating, it was impossible not to get caught up in the fun.
Imogen and Alex created a wedding that blended English tradition with playful, modern touches. From morning suits and a church ceremony to oysters, Guinness and a packed dance floor, it was a celebration that truly reflected who they are. Shooting it on both film and digital let me capture not only the story but also the timeless, editorial feel of the day.
As a Norfolk wedding photographer and destination wedding photographer, I feel so lucky to travel wherever love stories take me, from the mountains of New Zealand to the English countryside.
